“THREADS: The Death of Baldar ”
Currently in post production
In the fall of 2006, Theorem shot the beginning chapter of Keto Shimizu’s “Threads” series. This complex and highly involved story spans multiple generations, incorporating intense drama, action, fantasy, and a rich mixture of mythologies. The first piece of this tale is a short film entitled “The Death of Baldar.” Based on the Norse myth of the same name, this short weaves together iconic symbols, characters, and conflicts, all centered on a pair of enemies who pass together from one life into the next.
“The Death of Baldar ” marks the beginning of the end, it is the first part of a story that will carry several pairs of opposites through life into death and then back to life, through the Apocalypse and into what comes afterwards. Like the Norse myth, it sets off a chain of events that lead to the end of the world. In it’s entirety, “Threads” pulls from various poly, pan and monotheistic religions and mythologies, honing in on the themes and symbols that connect them as well as exploring the systems that keep them apart.
“Threads”—whose title comes from the ancient image of three fates spinning, weaving and cutting strands of thread (humanity)—seeks to demonstrate the complexity of human interaction, the cyclical nature of conflict, and the dialectic relationship between love and hatred.
